Toronto Taxi App does not collect, hold or process ride payments. You pay the fare directly to the driver, in cash or by card where the driver accepts it.
From downtown Toronto to Pearson Airport, for example, the app shows the estimated metered fare for the roughly 27 km ride before you order.
How the fare is calculated
The estimate follows the taxi meter rates set by the City of Toronto: a starting fee plus a charge for distance and for waiting time, applied to the road distance of your route.
Because you see the estimate before you order, there is nothing to negotiate at the curb. Traffic and waiting time can change the final metered fare.
Who drives
In Toronto, anyone who drives passengers for money needs a vehicle-for-hire licence from the City. Only taxi drivers with a valid City of Toronto licence receive requests through Toronto Taxi App.
Drivers are independent. They are not employees or service providers of Toronto Taxi App, and each one decides which requests to accept.
What drivers pay
Drivers pay no monthly fee. A platform fee – a software service fee – applies only when a driver voluntarily accepts a request through the app; the current rate is always shown in the driver app.
The fee is billed to the driver and is never taken out of the passenger's fare. Refund rules for driver fees are set out in the refund policy.
