In Toronto, every vehicle that carries passengers for money is regulated by the City's Vehicle-for-Hire bylaw (Municipal Code Chapter 546). Taxi drivers need a vehicle-for-hire driver licence from Municipal Licensing & Standards, which requires a criminal record check, a driver abstract and a City-approved training course.

Only taxis may pick up street hails or wait at taxi stands; ride-hailing drivers are licensed through their company. Only drivers with a valid City of Toronto taxi licence receive your request through Toronto Taxi App.

Ordering takes less than a minute:

• Enter your pickup point and destination.
• See the estimated fare at the City meter rates.
• Send the request – a licensed driver nearby accepts it.
• Pay the driver directly at the end of the ride.

The City of Toronto meter rates apply: the meter starts at $4.25, including a $1 fuel surcharge, and adds about $1.75 per kilometre plus waiting time. The fare is per vehicle, not per person; each passenger beyond four adds $2.

Passengers pay Toronto Taxi App no commission, booking fee or service charge. You pay the fare directly to the driver.
